Our Scholarship Kids At The Ailey Experience

Last weekend, dance aficionados from Charlotte, Detroit, and in between flocked to Northwest School of the Arts to participate in the Ailey Experience: Charlotte. Dancers ages 8 to 70 were able to take classes from former Company members Lisa Johnson-Willingham, Keith Alexander, and Christopher Jackson in Hip-Hop, Horton Technique, and Ailey Repertory. Among the 150+ participants, were 26 students who received the Konnected to Excellence Scholarship, sponsored by The Konnected Foundation Inc – a local nonprofit whose mission is to “Build A Better Life Through the Arts”. Tyler Goguen, a scholarship recipient, said “This was one of the most influential weekends of my dance career! I would like to thank Kevan Glover and The Konnected Foundation Inc for funding the scholarship…I can’t wait to come back next year!” This is the third year of the partnership between the Ailey Extension, Northwest School of the Arts’ Dance Department, and The Konnected Foundation Inc. Those who participated in both days were eligible to receive a 1-2 week scholarship to attend the Ailey Experience in New York City this summer. This year’s winners were Hugh Harris and Toni-Trenette Williams.
